Bisexual Visibility is important. Over the past few weeks I’ve seen so many pics on Insta of bisexual folk, and that’s great! Except the people in them are overwhelmingly whyte, thin, and very young. So this year I’d like to remind youse that bi+ folks are DIVERSE! We exist all around the world, in every ethnicity and race, in every age group, gender, disability, body size, and any other variant you choose. Happy #BiVisibilityDay to all of us! Yoooo it’s Bisexual Visibility Day! I’m here, I’m BLACK, I’m a WOMAN, I’m a SURVIVOR, I’m a TEACHER, I’m a MOM, I’m a DAUGHTER, I’m a FRIEND, I’m a WIFE, and I’m a HUMAN who happens to be BISEXUAL. [I also think I’m a singer.] . . My point is we are just as human as anyone else around here. . . For my Bisexual brothers and sisters who are not yet “out” publicly, you don’t HAVE to be. I love you, I see you, and I celebrate you! . . For my Bisexual brothers and sisters who are inching their way into being open publicly, I’m sending you a virtual hand to hold through the process baby! I know it’s not easy. I am #nonbinary. I am #bisexual. I am #Black. Yes all those things can exist in one person! I’m the only one who gets to decide how to identify. I long ago stopped debating with people who wanted to argue about which word to use: Bisexual or #Pansexual. The vast majority of these arguments are a derailing tactic, which are #biphobic, #panphobic and #transphobic all at the same time. These arguments are led by folks who rarely give a toss about us. The word #Lesbian used to mean (and still does sometimes) a person who was born in Lesbos Greece. Most folks can appreciate that language changed over time & are fine with the word Lesbian as a sexual orientation. The same goes for #Gay, which used to mean Happy. Again, language changed over time. Folks are fine with using the word Gay as a sexual orientation. The word #bi used to only mean two. Suddenly the whole bloody #monosexual world wants to scream that we should call ourselves something else. Language changes over time, but it seems the irrational fear, hatred and avoidance of bisexuals do not. So if you want to look like a jackass, please go right ahead and use that hateful argument – it’s a great warning for the rest of us that we should avoid you entirely. #HappyBiVisibilityDay everyone! Don’t be a jackass. #BiPride #BlackBisexualLivesMatter

Bisexual Visibility day/week/month/lifetime!

Title reads: Bi Visibility Day, a comic by @soovertherainbow. Emperor Robot says, “This comic is as subtle as a brick! And it’S interrupting my Firefly marathon.

Futuristic robot states, “This new Robot LGBT+ group just got funded. Isn’t that great!”
Another robot at ground level wears a sash with the words, “Bi Pride” on it. They respond, “They don’t have anything specific for bisexual Robots.”

Futuristic robot says, “What about this LGBT+ group for Black humans? The Emperor’s girlfriend will love that.”
Robot at ground level replies, “No she won’t. They don’t have anything specific for bisexuals.”

Futuristic robot asks, “Why are you being so difficult?”
Robot at ground level replies, “Why are you being a wanker? Answer that, you biphobic tosser.”

Futuristic robot starts to say, “You’ll lose an ally if you don’t argh!, but is unable to finish speaking, as the robot on the ground extends its arm, striking the floating futuristic robot.
The robot on the ground says, “Bisexuals may not get much funding, but we know how to spend it well.” An arrow points to the side of the robot’s arm stating, “Extendo-arm. Only £50!”

Bisexuals get a minuscule amount of funding because of Biphobia. 
LGBT+ organisations rarely provide anything specific for bisexuals because of Biphobia.
The unique experiences of bisexuals are usually incorporated into LGBT+ reports and stats, but never separated by individual sexual orientation because of Biphobia.
Black and POC charities for LGBT+ are terrible at welcoming bisexuals, providing resources for bisexuals and even saying the word bisexual. And why? Because of biphobia.
We are the B in LGBT+ but are rarely represented by Queer organisations. We regularly receive violence and abuse at Pride events from Lesbian and Gay folks. And if we live with other oppressions, our lives can be unbearable. Because of Biphobia.
Queer Hate doesn’t only come from Straight people. Hell, they don’t have to lift a finger, because so many Lesbian and Gay folks do the work for them. 

So if you want to shine a light on bisexual visibility, then shed some of that light on how we face biphobia inside the so called LGBT+ communities as well.

The Bisexual Flag belongs to us all!

Many of you online may have seen recent posts from BiNetUSA regarding the bisexual flag.  BiNetUSA have declared that they own the copyright of the flag, and that they will sue anyone or organisation using it, if they make over a certain amount of money per year.  This has understandably upset many bi+ people.

BiNetUSA claims the flag is theres, but they themselves tweeted this in 2018:

We at Bisexuals of Colour would like to make public that we in no way agree, endorse or support this decision.  We are all sad that BiNetUSA have made this cash-grab, when it isn’t even possible to copyright geometric shapes and flags in general in the U.S  We feel this incident will only add to the myth that Bisexuals are greedy, unreliable and untrustworthy.  We also acknowledge that this will harm Bisexuals who are people of colour, and/or Indigenous, who are some of the most vulnerable out there.   We call on BiNetUSA to apologise for the hurt and fear they have generated as a result of this.  Many small bisexual creators, artists and craftspeople now face an uncertain time (during a flipping pandemic!). Nobody needs this.
